Miyesha Bates, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Allen University. She went on to complete a Master’s in Management and Leadership from Webster University, complemented by certifications in Project Management and Global Career Development Facilitation from Midlands Technical College. These educational milestones have provided her with a strong foundation to blend business expertise with a deep commitment to community impact.
Her passion for philanthropy and community engagement was cultivated early, influenced by her mother and aunt, both of whom were dedicated to service. As a child, she actively participated in community events with her aunt and witnessed her mother’s mentorship of young women. These experiences shaped her desire to make a meaningful difference.
After earning her undergraduate degree, she took on the role of Regional Coordinator for the "Ace It" tutoring program at Sylvan Learning Center, supporting high-poverty, low-achieving communities in South Carolina. This position solidified her commitment to underserved populations and fueled her passion for community development.
Currently, she serves as the Resource and Employment Specialist at Persevere, a nonprofit organization that teaches computer coding to incarcerated individuals. In this capacity, she helps participants reintegrate into society and family, providing the resources, guidance, and emotional support necessary for successful transitions. She also contributes to the Columbia Reentry Council and is a member of SC Women in Leadership, SC Women in Construction, and SC Women of Asphalt.
As Chair, she is excited to strengthen community partnerships and create authentic relationships that lead to lasting change.
“Stepping into this role is both exciting and an honor. It's not just about leading—it’s about listening, connecting, and showing up for the community in meaningful ways. I am committed to building bridges for girls who deserve to rise beyond their circumstances.”
As Chair of the Board, Miyesha is focused on expanding the organization’s community footprint and ensuring long-term sustainability through measurable impact. Her leadership approach is rooted in collaboration, innovation, and accountability—driving forward a vision where every decision empowers the mission and every initiative brings us closer to access and opportunity. With a clear eye on growth and a heart for transformation, she is committed to advancing the mission with excellence and purpose.
